Technical Chair: AP Amit Pandey Ph.D

Speaker: Dr. Rajeev Gupta
Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
National Center for Education and Research on Corrosion and Materials Performance
The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio, USA

Topic: Ultra-high strength Al alloys with excellent corrosion resistance

Recent decades have witnessed a significant increase in the use of aluminium alloys due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and associated energy benefits. One of the biggest drawbacks limiting use of Al-alloys in many applications is the deterioration of the corrosion performance with any effort made to increase the strength. Development of Al alloys with improved strength and corrosion resistance has been of great interest. The present talk will highlight ongoing research in the speaker’s group on the development of ultra-high strength and corrosion resistant Al alloys via suitable processing technology in combination with suitable alloying elements.

Brief Profile of the speaker:
Dr. Rajeev Gupta is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. He earned the PhD degree in Materials Engineering from the Monash University, Australia in year 2010, and B.Tech. in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Prior to joining the University of Akron in November 2014, he was a research fellow at the Monash University, and then a research academic at the Deakin University, Australia. Rajeev’s primary research interests lie in the broad areas of corrosion and material engineering including structure/processing/property relationships, corrosion initiation and propagation, nanomaterials, alloy design, high temperature oxidation, and electrochemical methods to produce nanostructured metallic and ceramic coatings. Rajeev has authored over 45 publications in open scientific literature and several industrial reports. Dr. Gupta is a member of the ASM Akron Chapter.
