Reservations By: Monday October 14, 2013 by 1:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. There is no cost for the tour but reservations are appreciated to coordinate the tour and to notify the restaurant as to the expected head count.

Topic: Tour of the University of Akron Timken Engineered Surface Laboratories

A tour of the new University of Akron Timken Engineered Surface Laboratories (TESL) is the October 2013 ASM activity. This facility was designed to speed the path between discovery and commercialization with students, faculty and industry partnered in the development process. The Timken Company and The University of Akron contributed to the financing of the laboratories and they are housed on the campus of The University of Akron (UA). Host: Dr. Gary L. Doll, Ph.D., FASM.

Dr. Doll is a University of Akron Professor and the Director of the UA Timken Engineered Surface Laboratories. Dr. Doll transition into the active role of the Director of the AU Timken Engineered Surface Laboratories from the position of the Chief Technologist of Tribology and Next Generation Materials with the Timken Company of Canton, Ohio. Previous to The Timken Company, Dr. Doll was a Sr. Research Specialist with General Motors Research Laboratories in Warren, Michigan.

Pre-Tour Gathering & Networking: 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m in the lobby Tour: 6:30 p.m.
Post-Tour: Join us for dinner at the New Era after the tour.

ASM Akron Teachers Camp 2013. This year’s camp was informative and beneficial to the 19 attendees. We thank our sponsors and look forward to next year’s Teachers Camp to be held in July of 2014. Much appreciation to Dr. Bob Shemenski, FASM, and his team of volunteers.

Materials Selection Course will be offered by the ASM Akron Chapter in the late winter months. We are in the planning stage – Details TBA.
