Speaker: Gene Homer, P.E.

Mr. Homer Joined ASM in 1978 and is a Life Member and also serves on the ASM Akron Chapter Executive Committee. He attended the Mont Alto Campus of Pennsylvania State University and graduated with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1978 he became a Registered Professional Metallurgical Engineer. Gene was hired by Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Equipment Division (now BWX Technologies) as a Laboratory Technician in the Quality Control Materials Laboratory and achieved the position of Laboratory Supervisor/Furnace Master/Chief Metallurgist before his retirement after 49 years of service.

Topic:
Railroads and metallurgy are very closely connected, certainly without metallurgy (particularly iron & steel) the railroads as we know them would not exist.  Can the parallel histories be explained in 30 minutes or less?

CHAPTER NEWS

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Dr. Amit Prakash, FASM, Life Member of ASM International and a long-standing member of the ASM Akron Executive Committee. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Elections will be held at the April 18th meeting. Consider participating in the operations, leadership and future endeavors of the ASM Akron Chapter. Contact any of the officers at a meeting or as listed on the website.
