"Thermal Spray Surfacing Applications Used in
Continuous Hot Dip Zinc Coating Lines"

Presented By: Charles Kay, ASB Industries, Inc., Barberton, Ohio

Thermal spray technicians, machinists and supporting team members from ASB
Industries, Inc., will conduct this evening's presentation.
ASB has generously sponsored Thermal Spray Night since its onset.

This presentation will explain thermal spray surfacing technologies commonly used in CGL's with explanation of spray materials with pre and post processing to achieve pick-up resistant surfaces with advantages of longer service life. Each Continuous Hot Dip Zinc Coating Line operates within the constraints of their equipment design, operating procedures and type of steel. From dirty incoming strip transforming to building grade strip and critical exposed and high strength strip, roll surfaces need to function “silently” to produce defect free surfaces. Pick-up and wear resistant coatings will be discussed showing examples in various processing stages. Discussion will also include machining, grinding, inspection that produce turn-key projects at ASB Industries.

ASB Industries is active with ASM Akron Chapter and ASM International with focus in the Thermal Spray Society (TSS). With many Thermal Spray Technicians certified by the TSS, ASB also continues to be involved in TSS gaining knowledge of new materials, equipment and techniques.

Charles Kay has been with ASB Industries for over 30 years in the marketing of applications utilizing surfacing technologies. ASB Industries job shop activities are across a broad range of industries including Power Generation, Steel, Paper, Rubber; wherever there is equipment wearing out ASB likes to offer services. Active over many years in the Thermal Spray Society, current activities include co-editor of the quarterly iTSSe within AM&P.
